    How Do Satanists Celebrate Halloween?

How Satanists Celebrate HalloweenI love this time of year, the fall feeling in the air, the change of wardrobe, and mostly, my favorite holiday, Halloween! As a Satanist this has always been a special time of year for me. I have memories of getting married on this day to my (departed) husband Bill many years ago. Halloween and the fall season always makes me feel renewed. So, how do Satanists celebrate Halloween? In this post we will explore how Satanists celebrate Halloween, and I present to you a special Satanic Halloween ritual just for you.

Ancient Roots of a Modern Holiday

So where did Halloween originate? It seems as if many cultures throughout the centuries have their own way of celebrating the change of season and remembering the past.

A common theme for Halloween comes from ancient practices of honoring ancestors that have passed. During this time of year the earth enters into a dark phase, a kind of death where the life that we experienced during the spring and summer comes to a close.

The name of Halloween comes from a Christian word, meaning “hallowed evening”, referring to the night before the holiday, All Saint’s Day. On the day after all hallowed evening, Christians gathered and celebrated their favorite saints. Christians only gave us a modern word for the holiday though, as it’s roots run much deeper.

In earlier times the Celtic peoples celebrated in a similar way, with their own holiday to honor the dead.

    modern samhain
    Modern Samhain festival

Known as Samhain (pronounced sow-han), their celebration marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It was called All Soul’s Day, a night that the veil between the physical and the spiritual was at it’s thinnest.

Some historians also trace these kinds of celebrations back to ancient Roman times. A feast dedicated to the goddess of fruit, Pomona, celebrated the spirits of the ancestors.

This celebration lead into the weeks long observation of Paternalia. While this tradition was celebrated in February, it is believed by some that this festival could have been co-opted by Christians in later times.

After Christianity had taken root in Europe, they celebrated All Hallow’s Eve as a way to honor the saints. During the medieval era, it became tradition to dress up as one’s favorite saint. The tradition was modernized and commercialized in today’s world, where adults, children and families celebrate it as a fun time to dress up and to decorate their surroundings with witches, skeletons, spirits, and other spooky things.

So, How do Satanists Celebrate Halloween?

The question remains, how do Satanists celebrate Halloween? A quick search on the net will show you, that there isn’t much information on how Satanists celebrate Halloween. This is especially true if you disregard the many Christian sites with misinformation and horrifying suggestions on how they think Satanists celebrate Halloween.

So, in my quest for Satanic knowledge, I decided to dig deeper and see what some of the more popular organizations in Satanism think about this special time of year.

    Zeena LaVey Halloween
From Halloween in a Satanic Household, Zeena LaVey enjoying Halloween treats.

The Church of Satan, (Anton LaVey, et al.) proclaimed that Halloween was one of the more important holidays of the year for Satanists. In an essay about Halloween, Magistra Blanche Barton said this of the dark holiday:

“Halloween is traditionally a time when the obscure portal into the realms of darkness, death and the supernatural is thrown open.”

Satanists should celebrate Halloween and appreciate the the magical benefits that this holiday offers. We are moving towards the darkness during this holiday, and this shift is welcome. The veil between the physical and the spiritual is at its thinnest point compared to the rest of the year. It is the perfect time to explore inner darkness.

Further on, they explain that Halloween is the fall climax, and it should be celebrated as a time when one’s inner self can be explored. Using costumes or dressing up allows you to, for one night, be who you want to be and to take on a different role than you may not be in every day life. It truly is a time of self indulgence!

Other Satanic Organizations And Their Recognition of Halloween

Satanic Temple Leader, Lucien Greaves (source)

The Satanic Temple also explained in an interview how Satanists should push for Halloween to become a real religious holiday. In an interview at the Polite Conversations podcast, the co-founder of the Satanic Temple, Lucian Greaves, explains his take on Halloween:

“For decades you’ve had extreme Christian groups declaring Halloween Satanic and therefore, trying to drive it out of the schools, trying to withhold people from having any celebration of Halloween, well, where a religious organization that self identifies as Satanists, I feel, we should have the right to have our holiday as it is and recognized as a religious holiday.”

I agree with Lucien’s sentiment. While he didn’t say how Satanists celebrate Halloween, he did focus on why we should. We should reclaim this holiday for our own. Much of us already appreciate the darkness in our own way and we don’t need a special holiday to remind us of this. But, we have a holiday to enjoy anyway, and Satanists celebrate Halloween in their own way. If the ‘religious right’ calls Halloween Satanic then can we have our holiday then? The treat is on us if they want to play that trick!

It’s also ironic that a holiday that was, for centuries, for the purpose of remembering Christian saints, became a tool of slander for modern religions. It shows how much they know about the history of their religion, I suppose. Once again, as with may things in Satanism, we can reclaim what they have scapegoated us for.

Feel free to take the opportunity to celebrate Halloween and dress up how you wish. In fact, a great way for Satanists to celebrate Halloween is to make it a night of self-indulgence. Make it a new tradition to treat yourself with a gift of something nice.

    ~A Satanic Halloween Ritual~

Because the veil is lifted during this night, it is a wonderful time to do a special ritual. In this kind of ritual you can honor Satan and embrace what it means to be a Satanist.

I created a special ritual that you can do along with me on Halloween evening. In this ritual we will open the gates, as the veil is lifted and as we move closer towards the time of Satan and Capricorn in December.

It is the moment when the world comes upon darkness and we recognize the darkness that we have within. Without this time of dying and darkness, we could not have the cycle of life and light. A ritual is a great way for Satanists to celebrate Halloween.

    Suggested Tools:

A bonfire, if you can safely have one, or a single flame preferably from a black candle.

Imagery:  imagery of Satan as Saturn, devouring his children, as shown in the picture on the right. Alternatively find a picture of the Mouth of Hell, a painting of Satan or Baphomet, or simply a pentagram. This imagery is important this time of year as the winter and darkness devours life on the planet!

Chosen Gemstone: have an onyx, jet or any type of black stone on your altar or in your sacred space, or worn as jewelry

Items:  have a pinch of dirt to use for your ritual, better if you have graveyard dirt, giving it an ancestral feel. If not, chose your pinch of earth from a place that is special to you. Have a small dish to put it in

Clothing: dress as you wish in your costume, or wear a mask, or simply in your robes or even naked if it’s appropriate to your environment. As long as you are comfortable!

Scents: patchouli, pine or any earthy scent, or if you prefer, oils in a burner

Drink:  your ritual chalice, or cup with your choice of wine or even better, black coffee! It is black, bitter and awakening!

    Time: Halloween night!

First, the setup of your ritual space, in a specific sequence:

In this ritual, you will call upon the elemental and demonic quarters from east to south counter clockwise, Lucifer Belial, Lilith and Satan. From there you will do a ritual of thanks and recognition on Halloween night.

With your altar or ritual space facing south, gather and arrange the items on your altar

Face east and light your incense or oils in a burner

Face north and light your fire

Face west and pour your drink into your cup or chalice

Face south again and add the earth to your dish on your altar

    Now, the Infernal Invocation!

First, Lucifer, the Air – hold up your incense facing east – Lucifer opens the gates of communication
“Lucifer, I call upon you, be with me tonight on this sacred evening
Hear my call, Demons and Lords of Darkness!”

Face north, holding your candle or facing the flames, and call to Belial, lord of fire and will
“Belial, at the gate of two worlds, open the Mouth of Hell and make ready my appearance before Satan!
Grant me passage into the darkness on this night!”

Face west – holding your chalice and call to Lilith queen of water and the night
“Lilith, Queen of the night, mother of Demons, I call to you!
As your child of the night I come before you in honor!”

Face South, holding your dish of earth – a call to Satan, lord of the Earth and the physical
“Satan I call to you, Lord of the world and all that is manifested!
I stand in your presence and declare myself at one with darkness!”

“I vow to walk the path of darkness and face all that is within –
as my ancestors had lived and died with purpose, so do I upon
    this path.

I thank you, Satan, for bringing me the harvest of your knowledge,
wealth and power. I stand beside you in glory as i enjoy the earthly
    pleasures of this night!”

“To Lilith! Queen of the Darkness!”

Raise your chalice and then drink
    from it

“To Belial! Lord of the Flame”

    Point towards the flame!

“To Lucifer! Lord of the East”

    Face east!

And finally south to close your ritual!

“To Satan! Lord of the Earth!”

    SO IT IS DONE

    Enjoy your Holiday!

So, this is how Satanists celebrate Halloween! With enjoyment, costuming, and perhaps a Satanic ritual. In closing, whether or not you do this ritual, make sure to enjoy the rest of your Halloween evening with friends, how satanists celebrate halloweenand reflect on what it means for you personally to walk the path of darkness! • My Recent Altar! – Venus Satanas

My Recent Altar! – Venus Satanas

My Baphomet statue (middle). It’s sitting on it’s own stand but in front of it is my crystal ball..surrounded by my crystals!

Around the time of the Summer Solstice this year, I acquired the final finishing piece for my altar!  On one of my journeys out of town I decided to visit a magic shop in Jacksonville; there I found many nice things..but the best of all was this Baphomet statue. It fits perfectly in my small space I have set up for magic and ritual.

This is my first time owning a Baphomet statue, but it’s not my first time using the symbolism of Baphomet in my altar setups. Most times, I have hung a banner or an image above my altar.

The Baphomet is symbolic to Satanists for several reasons. In it’s history it has often been a misunderstood symbol. The best way to understand it is to see it’s opposite – the lamb. The lamb and the shepherd symbolism of Christianity is contrasted with the goat, a symbol used in Judaism as Azazel, the ‘scapegoat’, the creature that bore the sins of the people and was set free in the the wilderness.

So it was common for Christians to scapegoat other groups and religions with their chosen symbol of Satanism. This was seen with the Baphomet representing the god of the Templars who were falsely accused of being Satanic and were slaughtered by a king that sought to bury the fact that he owed them a fortune.

The Baphomet as a spiritual symbol was made popular by Eliphas Levi, from his book, the Transcendental Magic. In his symbolism it showed the Baphomet as a hermaphrodite, encapsulating male and female energies, light and dark, above and below. The symbolism is related to the archetype of Satan found throughout the world in various cultures, in dark and demonic gods. More than this, however, it is a symbolic of initiation:

Baphomet is not worshiped; it is God who is worshiped, this faceless God behind this formless form, this image which resembles no created being.  Baphomet is not a God; He is the sign of initiation.” – Eliphas Levi, Transcendental Magic

What does this “initiation” mean? The Baphomet as a symbol of the void that comes into being, the nothing that becomes something, is the force of nature at work. In this we find the symbol of Satan as the force of nature, as the worldly god. It is from the darkness that light begins, so we are taken to the source, the beginning, the initiation.

Very appropriate for Satanism! We as Satanists have adopted this symbol and have identified with it as part of our Satanic culture. I’m glad to finally have a Baphomet statue for my altar. Show your Satanic pride and get your very own Baphomet Statue for your altar from Amazon!

  • Easter Morning Ritual for Lucifer

    Easter Morning Ritual for Lucifer

Lucifer Sculpture, Guillaume GeefsHappy Zombie Day!

As we draw nearer to the Christian holiday of Easter once again, as Satanists we are reminded why Christians celebrate Easter. It’s one of their most important holidays besides Christmas.

But, what does the holiday really mean? This holiday can have a spiritual significance for you as a Satanist as well, once you understand it’s general meaning. The tale of Christian Easter is focused on the death and resurrection of a god. This tale is not unique to Christians, as you will see.

    Dying gods are common..

There are many stories from around the world about the dying and reborn god. for instance, in one of the more popular tales, we can go back to ancient Egypt and their belief in Osiris, who died and rose from the dead. In the story, the king Osiris was tricked by his brother, Seth to lie down in a lead box which was thrown into a river. In mourning his wife, Isis, searched for him until his resting place was finally found. The gods rewarded Isis for her faithfulness and they resurrected Osiris. The festival for this was usually around April 3rd, where after a three-day celebration the final ceremony was conducted, in which Osiris was found and resurrected. It is theorized that this ritual was linked with their fertility and harvest cycle.(1)

Many of these myths have a common theme and purpose and are based on agricultural and natural happenings between winter and spring. Grains were harvested in fall and they bloom again in the spring, and the folks of the time related that to the symbolism of the action of the god dying and being resurrected. Many of these stories have several versions as well, so there is a variety of mythos much like what the Christians have.

Could us as Satanists have our own legend too? I think the closest thing is the fall and rise of Lucifer, as told in their Bible. But even before Lucifer was demonized by Christians and it was written in their Bible, the Lucifer of Roman times, as the son of the goddess of the dawn, was hailed in a similar fashion, as a god that rises in the east and falls in the west.

The eastern star can be a focal point for you on early Easter morning, if you wish, doing a ritual to honor Lucifer as a fallen and risen god. Lucifer as a living god is a force that many of us relate to as Satanists but on his own, as a liberator from the darkness of ignorance. Just as Lucifer liberates us from the night, his star heralds the dawn letting us know that morning, and a new day has arrived.

    Ritual for Lucifer

This is a quick, basic ritual that you can do for Lucifer. In my teachings, I relate Lucifer to the powers of the Air, The planet Venus, and the dual sign of Libra, being both morning and evening star. For this ritual, the color is Blue, and the herb/oil to use is lavender. These are only suggestions for you to use, of course, based on common associations of elemental and planetary magic.

Outdoors, early in the morning while the eastern star is still visible, burn some fresh dried lavender or light lavender incense. Light a blue candle that has been mindfully anointed with Lavender oil; Hand draw the sigil of Lucifer on a piece of paper or parchment. Face the eastern star and say this as you light your candle.

Morning star of Lucifer, bring your light,

Help me escape the ignorance of the night,

Show me the way through your divine power!

On this Easter morning at this early hour!

You can also supplement this evocation with any saying that you wish instead of the one that I have provided. If you like, burn your sigil after your evocation, the smoke from it will rise towards the stars. Alternatively, keep it on your personal altar as a memento of this moment in time.

Spend some time meditating on the symbolism of Lucifer and the beneficial things Lucifer can bring your life. I like to think that Lucifer brings us wisdom and clarity, just like the symbolic scales of Libra allow for a person to carefully consider an issue and make an educated decision. Lucifer brings balance, being at the midpoint between night and day. Lucifer’s appearance before dawn is symbolic of the idea that comes first that that leads to full realization. Allow Lucifer to enter your heart and renew it. Lucifer is the knowledge and wisdom of the spirit. Allow the spirit of Lucifer to raise your consciousness. Hopefully through this symbolism, as a Satanist, you can celebrate Easter by giving notice to Lucifer.

    Lucifer as a Christian Problem:

What you may find interesting is that even Christians have a problem with their version of Lucifer. As the morning star, Lucifer is mentioned outside of his Isaiah verse (fallen son of the morning..) stating: – “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright ‘Morning Star.’” Rev 22:16.

Most English translations title the “Lucifer” in the Revelation verse as “Morning Star” while they leave the original Isaiah verse as “Lucifer”! While this verse is found in the basic king James version of their own bible you will find that many Christians deny the association between their Jesus and Lucifer, even though it is in plain sight as bright as the star of the morning.

  • Commentary on the Guardian Demon

    Commentary on the Guardian Demon

    Guardian Demon

The Guardian Demon is a concept that is discussed in Satanism at times. I have had folks ask me to help them to contact their own personal guardian, or ask me how to work with them. It must be that those who promote the idea of a guardian demon are conveniently seeking to lay the responsibility of teaching spirituality on something else rather than taking the time to aid you in a personal way.

The concept of the Guardian Demon in Satanism suggests that a demon can help you to learn spell working and magic, that it can help you with psychic or spiritual abilities – but these are the things that you could (and should) be pursuing on your own without the aid of some demon. There is no easy way to take on a spiritual path and to change your life in a spiritual way, and to suggest that all you have to do is contact a demon to magically do all these things for you is ridiculous.

Generally, demons are not teachers who will aid you with these things. In fact, learning how to perform magic or do other spiritual activities should be something that you  learn on your own so that you have the necessary experience to actually summon a demon. Without this experience, you can not effectively or accurately communicate with the divine.

The concept of the guardian demon is something that was borrowed, quite incorrectly from the teachings of Aleister Crowley and the practice of Ceremonial Magick. In this system, the divine force of inner will is known as the “Holy Guardian Angel”. To assume that Satanists must copy this idea and reverse it, shows a lack of understanding of the methods of attaining conversation with one’s Holy Guardian Angel. It misses the mark entirely, making such ideas a waste of time.

There is no easy way out when it comes to learning how to do magic, or how to live a more spiritual life. It takes time and effort and dedication to one’s path. Lets face it, demons never have been, nor ever will be a personal guru. They are also not magic genies to ask wishes from. There is no spiritual being out there that will aid you in what you must do on your own.  If that seems daunting – it should. Spiritual attainment is a life-long journey that at times may feel that it may never be complete.

  • The Familiar Spirit and It’s Role in Satanism

The Familiar Spirit and It’s Role in Satanism

Today’s topic is an exploration of the familiar spirit in magic. A familiar is an animal that is more than just a pet; it is a companion in a spiritual and physical way that can protect you, comfort you, guide you and teach you in the ways of magic.

Although it is not necessary to have a familiar to be successful in magic or witchcraft, having one will enable you to add an extra layer in your practices.
Familiars aren’t often discussed in the context of Satanic magic or witchcraft. There is a feeling among Satanists in general that the practice of having a familiar belongs to the realm of paganism or Wicca. This is a misconception, because those that discount this kind of experience in their magic or witchcraft are missing out on the many benefits that having a familiar can bring. Satanism has no such rules or boundaries that apply to all Satanists.
    Witches Familiar
The cat is the most often chosen of these animals, for several reasons. Cats have an ancient history of being related to magic and the spirit world. It was the cat of ancient Egypt that was so revered that they had their own temples and were worshiped as gods. Cats have served their role in humanity by being protectors of our food sources, and were at one time a very important part of society. It wasn’t until much later in medieval times that cats (and black cats in general) became a symbol of the underworld. Cats were associated with witches as a liaison of the devil because of their nocturnal nature.

With all of this, during the era of the witchcraft trials, cats were hunted and killed alongside the innocents of the era. They became messengers of evil, smothering babies in their cribs in an age where people didn’t realize that cats just want a warm place to sleep. They became harbingers of death and misfortune. It is for this very reason that the black plague was able to spread so quickly. You see, cats being the hunters that they are, were able to keep the disease spreading populations of rats in check. Without the aid of cats, the rats of Europe were able to spread the plague quite readily. In their panic and fear of the unknown, cats were demonized not only for their past association with gods but for their nocturnal nature that must have seemed quite unnatural to humans in that age.Interviews

It is from this era that the idea of a familiar spirit that can aid a witch or magician developed. From its history it has changed into something wonderful that anyone of any path can tap into for its benefits. A familiar can be any kind of animal or creature that can aid you in bringing you closer to nature and the spiritual world. The idea of a familiar animal or creature can be felt in the best way when you are able to relate to that animal or creature in a personal way.

For example, I have a friend who is saving her money so that she can have a snake for a familiar. I know another person who has a spider for theirs. And its not unheard of to have a pet rat, ferret, rabbit, dog, or any kind of animal whether it is domesticated or not. A familiar will have a kinship with you that is deeper than just a pet and its owner can experience.

For instance, my familiar appears in my dreams at times and guides me in certain situations, enabling me to learn from him in a special and very spiritual way. My cat who is still very much a kitten at this stage, will be my guardian who will protect me by deflecting any harmful magic sent my way. He can join me in rituals and magic, with his presence allowing me to be drawn closer to the animal spirit and nature itself. He is my bridge between the physical and the spiritual in this way, acting as a gateway into the spirit world.

Animals are uncomplicated and feel emotions in a much purer way than humans do. They do not create prejudices in their minds, they love unconditionally, and they are able to feel the ‘spirit’ of a situation in a natural way. Other familiars I have had in the past were so close to me, that they had their own spot on my altar just for them. I have done magic with them, and on them.

I could tell many stories of how they helped me in rituals, and how they warned me about situations, and how I learned how to be closer to nature through them. They have made my life with magic and witchcraft so much richer! And what better way for Satanists, who generally gravitate towards earthly things than to have a special relationship with something that is so close to nature.

  • What Do Satanists Believe About The Afterlife?

What Do Satanists Believe About The Afterlife?

I have been asked so many times, what I believe about Satanism and the “afterlife”. People want to know what Satanists believe about hell, and eternal damnation. People also want to know if Satanists believe in an afterlife.

Answers to this will vary depending on who you ask. Not all Satanists have the same beliefs or ideas about where our spirits may go after we die.

The belief in the afterlife is a learned belief, something that is passed down through generations. Every culture around the world has an afterlife belief. the Hebrews believed that after death the soul would go to a place called ‘Sheol’ (the grave). However, they don’t have a belief in hell or eternal punishment.

The Greeks had a place of eternal punishment, called Hades. By comparing the beliefs of the Greek and Christian afterlife, it is easy to see how they are similar. In the renaissance era, some Christians also believed that there were different levels of hell where a person would be punished according to their sin. So beliefs about what the afterlife is, from a Christian perspective, have changed and evolved over the years.

This is a very simplistic view, that was created to keep people in line with the moral teachings of religion. Of course religion will claim to have the keys to life and death and the manual of life to go along with it. What kind of religion would it be without those things? But the simple truth is, death and the afterlife is a mystery and it has been viewed in many different ways by many different cultures.

Who’s idea is right? Are the Hindus right? do we all reincarnate into another life? where does the ‘soul’ go? Does the soul even exist? So many questions. no wonder people are confused about this. Still, people have some kind of general idea that we ALL go to heaven if we are good, or hell if we are bad. If only we were allotted this cosmic justice as a reward or punishment. For example, how could Hitler suffer the same fate as mother Theresa?

Believing in the afterlife is so much more than just a belief. It affects the way people live their lives too. There are two things to consider in this view point: 1. life is not worth living unless there is some reward involved and 2. one must spend their life pleasing whatever god is promising them this glorious existence in the afterlife.

This causes two things. First of all, many people have been influenced by this idea so they loose interest in this life by not caring about the earth, and others around them. What is promised afterwards seems more rewarding than what is offered in the present. It reminds me of a conversation I had in the chatroom, a Christian was talking about 2012, and how he believed the rapture was going to take him away, so he said that he didn’t care if the earth was destroyed and everything died as long as he could be with his god. To me that does not even make sense. This is the only earth we have and we better do what we can to protect it.

Secondly, the promise of an afterlife is a ‘conditional reward’, meaning that a person is taught to believe that if they follow the rules of the religion they will get their divine reward or punishment. This afterlife promise becomes the tool of religion to direct and guide peoples lives for as long as they live. Christianity is not the only religion that has done this.

So, what do Satanists believe about hell, death and the afterlife? I made a video explaining my views on death and the afterlife a few weeks ago, to try and answer some of these views. You can visit the video here Heaven or Hell, a Satanists View or see it below at the end of the post.

What Satanists believe will vary according to their path in Satanism. For instance, LaVeyans may accept that there is no afterlife at all, there is no heaven or hell. They may also try to live life and appreciate being in the here and now. It is a very materialistic view. Some Spiritual Satanists may believe that they will spend their afterlife with Satan, even fewer accept that they will go to a Christian hell.

I have a very different view. I have experienced ghosts and spirits. I can not explain their existence but I can say that when you are open to experiencing these kinds of things, they will become more apparent to you that they really do exist. What is also interesting to me is that ghost sightings have been happening all over the world for a very long time. Either it is some kind of mass hallucination or there really is a kind of realm of energy where these beings may exist.

There are theories on why ghosts exist. For instance, it is said that a person who dies in a violent or sudden way could end up haunting an area, either reliving their experience or making appearances. Assuming that ghosts are real, this idea makes sense because the shock of death or the need to settle a score or to get retribution may be enough energy to keep the spirit of a human manifested into the spirit world.

Also there are different types of haunting. There are ‘intelligent’ haunting, where the spirit attempts to communicate either through sounds or by moving things, or a signal, possibly related to the poltergeist. There is also the situational haunt which is where the spirit relives the same actions over and over, it becomes familiar to the energy of the area.

There are measurable ways of detecting spirits, through electronic devices. Its not necessary to use Ouija spirit boards to ghost hunt anymore. The most convincing evidence that I have found is the EVP recording, that records the voices of spirits.

All of this is very fascinating to me, and it almost provides a scientific explanation of what happens in the afterlife. My idea is that there is NO heaven or hell..and this is why so many spirits and ghosts are left behind to haunt the physical. After they pass away they are expecting to go to that afterlife but they are unprepared to spend their existence as a spirit. The energy of a person or animal is imprinted in the places where it resided during life. This energy is what allows the spirit to be sustained. The longer the energy stays there the more the spirit will manifest.

Maybe people also add to the energy of the spirit, by interacting with it and giving it energy, either mentally or emotionally. It all comes down to energy and how it manifests. I think there are reasons why spirits exist and there are reasons why they haunt certain places. There is a reason why there are so many spirits now, and these spirits are restless or in distress. Because there is no heaven. They didn’t get what they were promised and they have no peace, no where to go.

Heaven is of course a convenient lie and it has left so many of these spirits stranded. I do not believe that this spirit afterlife is eternal. When a spirit goes ‘towards the light’ or is helped to the other side, it is dissipated and it no longer exists as a collective energy. The spirit is ‘stuck’ between worlds as it clings to the things that influenced the spirit during life.

Of course these are all just theories. The ghostly afterlife idea is more interesting to me, anyway.. and its something that can be seen, it is known all over the world. The ghost or spirit is an idea deeper than any religion can claim. What if it’s true?

So, as far as what I believe about my Satanism and the afterlife:
No I do not accept the afterlife as promised by religion
No, I do not accept the religious idea of reincarnation.
No I do not expect to die and be with Satan for eternity.
No, I do not expect to be ‘eternally punished in a lake of fire’. Generally, that is a Christian belief.

Yes I think that spirits/ghosts are real, or at least, real interesting 😉
Yes, I focus on the here and now and life while I am living.

In any case, if I am completely wrong about the spirit/ghost afterlife, when the time comes, I have lost nothing by exploring this idea.

  • Satan as Creator of Humanity?

    Satan as Creator of Humanity?

I read a very interesting statement on a website the other day:

The “Devil” *not* the Judeo/Christian “God” was the creator of humanity.”

Its a very interesting statement because it shows what some Satanists are willing to believe when it comes to religion. They believe the opposite of what the Christian bible teaches, that god created humans and that Satan is the enemy of man.

This is a very simple reversal of the Christian tale of creation, that the ‘devil’ created us, instead of the Christian god. What is often times ridiculous is that this statement is expressed without any supplemental proof. It requires faith to believe and accept something like this, just like the belief that the Christian god created the earth, requires faith to accept.

The story of creation as told in the bible, is similar to many other creation tales that can be found in religions around the world, so why should a creation tale in Satanism be any different?

There are two things you should consider:

First of all, if all of these creationist tales are true, according to the words of their religion, including paganism, Wicca and Christianity, then which one is right?

Secondly, why do people have a need to believe that this earth was created by some divine force? Is it because they want the gods of their religion to be recognized for the creation and ownership of this earth? Does this so-called ‘ownership’ give them some kind of divine power and social authority?

    Which one is True?
Lets look at the first question. There are many, many religions that are found all over the world. Each one of them has their own version of how the earth was created. Which one is true? Which religious myth is real? is it the one that is the most convincing or believable? Does the ancientness of a religious idea make it more reliable as a truth?

It does not make any logical sense to believe that they are all right. If any god had created this earth, what created that god? The Greeks and the Romans believed just as much in their own creation tales two-thousand years ago, as Christians and pagans believe in their own stories today.

The idea of creation through divine forces does not make sense to me. I feel that Satan is a *god of this earth* a god that represents earthly things, but I would never claim that he created this earth. The idea is ludicrous to me. What created this earth, nobody can answer. No one was there in the beginning to see it, to witness it. However, science may have some ideas on how planets are created, through their research..but much of this is theory for now.

In reality, no one has the final answer as to what created this earth. If we had the final answer it would be as obvious and as accepted as the fact that the earth is round, or that the earth revolves around the sun.

It is more evident, however, that religions and the creation stories that accompany them, have developed over many centuries, each with their own story to tell. This is an obvious fact that can be proven through historical, archeological, and sociological research.

Ownership or Possession of the Earth
And that brings me to the second question, Ownership of the earth. Religious Satanists, like the members of other religions, want to claim that their god owns this earth. By believing this, they can fit in with he other religions that make this same claim, therefore making themselves seem legitimate.

The most popular creation story of satanism is found in the Al-Jilwah. Through research, it has been proven that this document was created by a person who had little knowledge of the document’s origins and meanings. It was written by a man who like others of his era, had strong religious prejudices against the peoples who first wrote the Al-Jilwah. Regardless of this fact, the story of the Al-Jilwah is accepted as a creation story in Satanism, only because LaVey introduced the story and made it popular to Satanists in the Satanic Rituals.

However, Satanists do not have to accept the same basic ideas that Christians, pagans, and all other religions preach, that their god[s] created the Earth and/or the universe. Satan is a *god of this earth* a god that represents earthly things, one of many gods of this earth that represent human needs and desires on a divine level.

You are not loosing anything by abandoning the religious idea that Satan created the earth. In fact, you are freeing yourself from the same trap that all religions try to teach, and that can be really liberating.

This is also why I gladly accept the fact that all gods were created by humans, as a means of religious and spiritual expression. This idea makes more sense to me than the self righteous, and faith-based ideas of the religious who, for many centuries, have tried to claim ownership of the earth and sometimes the entire universe, through their ideas of what their god represents.

What appeals to me is the recognition of Satan as a god of humans, reflecting our nature and our desires, and moving through the forces of nature itself, by means of Satanic expression.

  • Lucifer, The Fallen

In the city of Madrid, in Retiro Park, the largest park of the city, there is a statue of Lucifer that was created by the artist Ricardo Bellver.

Bellver created the statue of Lucifer in 1877. He named this creation, “The Fallen Angel (El Ángel CaĂdo)”. This statue is said to be the only [public] work of art in the world to be ‘dedicated wholly’ to Lucifer. It was such a wonderful creation, that Ricardo Bellver had won the First Medal at the Spanish National Fine Arts Exhibition in 1878, and afterward it was placed in Retiro Park, in a fountain.

    The Fall Of Lucifer
The Fallen Angel statue represented a passage in the poetry of Milton’s Paradise Lost. Paradise lost was inspired by the earlier Vondel’s Lucifer. These were works of epic religious drama inspired by the classic poets, like Virgil. It was, of course, a dramatic struggle between good and evil that entertained the idea of the ‘fall of Lucifer’, and the fall of Man, to a Christian audience.

In this statue, we can see that Lucifer is falling against the rocks, towards the earth. Wrapped around his legs is the serpent, a symbol of Satan in Christian myth. The serpent was the original cause of the ‘fall of man’, according to christian theology, and through this the gods of man [such as Lucifer] had fallen too, in the age of Christianity. There is a look of horror on his face, as if he were witnessing the ‘wrath of god’. This statue also symbolizes an important concept, that Satan and Lucifer are forever entwined together.

    Fall, Or Freedom?

When Lucifer declared to god, “Non Serviam!” [paradise lost] it was his own assertion of power and for this he was ‘cast’ to the earth along with all of the other demons, devils and gods into Pandemonium, the land beneath the earth, otherwise known as hell. From this he gathered his armies and with Satan and Belial at his side he declared independence for all who would follow his example.

  • Book Review: The Al-Jilwah For Satanists

    THE AL-JILWAH FOR SATANISTS
The Al-Jilwah is a book of mystery and enlightenment, belonging to the Kurdish tribe of people known as the Yezidi. It is also known as a sacred book for Satanists. This book is for all satanists who want to learn about the origin of the Al-Jilwah, and why it is so popular in Satanism.

    WHY THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN:
This book was written to expose the false history of the Al-Jilwah as a book of the Devil. For many years, the Yazidi have been wandering desert nomads and their sacred book has been labeled as evil by the religious right. Unfortunately this caused many Satanists including LaVey to label the Yazidi as the devil’s own, and their sacred Al-Jilwah book became a representation of the Devil’s revealed words.

    WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR:
This book is for all Satanists who want to explore the historical origins of the Al-Jilwah, a mysterious religious book that has been labeled as ‘evil’ both by Christians and by Satanists. Don’t just accept these stories without knowing the real origins of the religious material that you accept as sacred. This book reveals the truth about the origins of the Al-Jiwah, and it exposes the historical errors in its writing and representation as a Satanic holy book.

  • Review: The Demonic Bible

Ahhh.. The Demonic Bible… a mysterious tome written by the Disciple of the Dark Lord, and the AntiChrist, Magister Tsirk Susuej. According to his account, his un-holy guardian angel, Azazel revealed these invocations to him and inspired him to write this book.

I met Tsirk back in 2005. We talked through emails and we discussed ideas about Satanism. At the Time he was running a Luciferian organization, [The Embassy of Lucifer] and he approached me and asked me to host his book at my website. Tsirk was the protege of the Satanic Magician, Yaj Nomolos – He wrote several books [including, The Magic Circle]. Yaj Nomolos had ties with the original Church of Satan in the 80’s.

The Demonic Bible is a bare-bones guidebook of incantations and invocations. It is meant to be used as a guide to inner understanding of the dark and animalistic aspects of the soul. Through the invocations of demons, vampires, the undead and werewolves, the author takes you on an inner journey through the subconscious. These invocations are related to the dark and dangerous associations of the Left Hand Path.

How you use this book is up to you. My interpretation is that this book can be used to introduce the subconscious to these demonic forces, by identifying with the imagery and associations of the left hand path through a series of rituals. If you are seeking to understand or experience these aspects, then this book could be a great introduction for you.

The latest 4th revised edition can be found at amazon.
