    On Leaving Christianity, Reader Q & A

Infernal Greetings! Today’s Satanism question sent to me by email comes from a person named “Q” who asks:

    Leaving Christianity for Good

“I became a Satanist but then I had a relapse into Christianity. I want to find a way to keep Satan in my life and I hope that you had some advice on leaving Christianity. Any advice that you could give I would greatly appreciate…

A very appropriate question for this time of year, when people are trying to live their lives in a better way because of the new year.

It’s a question I get asked often, so I would like to share it here on the Spiritual Satanist blog. Quite some time ago, I had written an article on my Spiritual Satanist site addressing this topic, My Advice on Leaving Christianity, where I discuss the methods that can be used to leave your former religion.

Also, there is a supplemental video on YouTube, “Satanic Black Mass”, describing what happens at a black mass and the usefulness of this ritual for those leaving Christianity. Hopefully these resources may help to give some insight.

People leave Christianity for various reasons. Some are disenchanted with the religion. Others had suffered abuse, and still other seek freedom from the limitations that Christianity provides. One of the things that i recommend is to do a personal ritual that will enable you to let go of your past. This ritual is called a Black Mass, and essentially it allows you to mock, or destroy your beliefs in your former religion. It is necessary to deconstruct something like this so that you can understand why it is important to leave it behind. Once you see it in a ridiculous or useless light it may open your eyes and allow you to step away.

An example of the Black Mass can be found in the Satanic Bible (At Left Hand Path Books site), where it is presented as an inversion of the Catholic mass. The Black Mass serves as a cleansing from your former religion allowing you to move forward. Until you can reconcile this you may be tempted to return out of fear, guilt or obligation. Getting rid of the old will enable you to welcome the new.

Satanism is not an easy path, and it is difficult because much of what you will do in it you will have to do on your own. Nothing good ever came from anything that was easy and Christianity may seem like the easy way out because it is familiar. That familiarity makes you want to not even try, to go back to your old ways where you were comfortable because you knew what to expect.

I suspect that the reader, “Q” is a religious kind of person, so taking a religious approach may help as well. It would be wise to set up a time and place to have private, spiritual communion with Satan on a daily basis. Perhaps some sort of shrine or altar, something simple to start out with, can be your focus.

Even if it is something as simple as having a photograph in a frame and a candle to light or incense to burn while you commune with Satan can be beneficial. It will give you a focus that is planted here in the material world. Take some time to get to know the character and nature of Satan. This can be done by spending time daily reading about Satanic legends. There are many stories that tap into the primal dark force that can relate to Satan, and learning from these may enable you to facilitate a better relationship with Satan. Knowledge will liberate your mind and soul.

Make yourself familiar with these things and you will find that you are creating your own path in Satanism and in time, this will be a familiar and welcome thing. Until you are able to completely walk away from your former religion you may be tempted to return. You must be honest with yourself and strip away any pretense.

Take some time to examine why you feel tempted to return to your former religion, but at the same time, take note of why you were unhappy to begin with. If the cons outweigh the pros, then it makes no sense to go back to something that isn’t benefiting you. If what you seek is happiness then work towards those goals. Take the time to know why you want to return to Satanism.

Write these things down in a book and refer to them when you feel uncertain. It seems simple but just the act of writing it out can be a useful exercise that will help to cement these ideas. In dealing with guilt and fear left over by a former religion, one must realize that guilt and fear are the things that motivate people into submission. It is a tool of the religious to keep people within the fold, to guide people into behaving in certain ways.

And in leaving this behind you will find a new freedom that nothing can match. But first you must rid yourself of the past in order to be able to move on, and you also should establish new habits that will help you to stay on track.

    Blessed Beast!
    Best Wishes in 2017,

  • The Black Mass – What is the Purpose?

Another great question sent to me from a youtube viewer. This person, who is a christian, wants to know about the purpose of the black mass, and what it means to satanists.

“I came across your you tube videos a week a two ago and find them quite fascinating (I am actually a christian – I’m a practicing catholic – Catholics and satanists both like ritual and imagery!). I watched the Black Mass

one a few times at the weekend and have a couple of questions.

The first is about blasphemy. You said something about using blasphemy in the ritual – do you mean the ritual itself, as worshiping another God is blasphemous to a christian,or do
    you mean something else?

The other was empowerment – you seemed to be saying that the ritual led to personal empowerment – is that the objective? I’ve never come across that idea in religion – striving for goodness,or communion with God is I guess what I was taught are the aims of religion.

Does a satanist strive for communion with Satan?“

Thank you for watching my vids, by the way. many have wrote to me and thanked me for presenting my ideas without being judgmental against other faiths. this is because i am more interested in how religion works, than in what people believe about it.

Ritual and imagery is found in most practices of the occult, especially within organized religions and orders. However some occult practices, and even some satanists do not use ritual or imagery at all. examples of this are found in chaos magic where there is no specific tradition or method that is used to create magic, and philosophical or atheistic satanism, which may not recommend any ritual at all.

The blasphemy in the Black mass of the Satanists is based on what it represents to the satanists. not all satanists have the same practices and beliefs, so what is blasphemous to one person, may not be to another person. Not all satanists have the same attitude towards the practice of blasphemy, either. some resort to it so that they can connect with the powers of Satan., this is satanic worship on a very basic level. Satanist who worship Satan through christian blasphemy can be described as reverse Christians. i know this may sound odd, but it’s not, its a reversal of christian values, and a projection of Satan as god, and often it is the christian god who becomes evil and laughable, and through this blasphemous worship is performed.

I call this satanism on a ‘basic level’ because it is Christianity that is veiled with the pretense of satanism. Within the black mass, blasphemy is used as a tool, and a means to an end. To answer your question plainly, if one is seeking to ally with Satan, and is performing a black mass, the blasphemy that is performed is not blasphemy against the christian god for worshiping another god. It is blasphemy because it is the ridicule of one’s former religion. the best and most satisfying way to leave a former belief system is to destroy it’s psychological hold by making a ritual that casts doubt upon it;s meaning and use in one’s life, in a way that mocks it’s hold upon one’s heart and spirit.

It is through the denial of the religion or belief system of the past, this death of former beliefs, that allows the satanist to move forward, renewed with a purpose that is self created. This is where the concept of self empowerment comes into play. it may be difficult as a christian for you to understand this concept, but many satanists believe in and practice the method of free will. this will is set free when the satanists decides to leave the former restricting beliefs of the past. Once these beliefs are no longer used the true self can emerge over time. This is the mechanism of self empowerment that is often found in independent Satanists, who ally with Satan for mutual benefit.

Your last question: ‘Do satanists strive for communion with Satan?’ Some do. they worship and pray to their god, whether it is a christian version of Satan or some other pre-christian satanic archetype [Set]. They may choose to recognize Satan as the only god and be devoted worshipers. Some Satanists are not dependent on Satanism as a religion, and many do not worship Satan as a god. for me, I am theistic and spiritual, I do recognize Satan as a god, but i am allied with Satan for my causes, and I have no need to worship a force that I am allied with.

  • Dedication To Satan

Recently I made a video for youtube, addressing the topic of pact-making with Satan. This is a controversial subject in Satanism because not all satanists accept that Satan is a god. For some, the forces of Satan are only Symbolic. Those who feel that Satan is only symbolic, do not have to be left out of the pact-making process. The pact can be literal, as a spiritual vow or agreement, or it can be symbolic, as a way of representing an agreement with satanism, or as a method of declaring one’s self as a satanist. There are a few things to take into consideration before you commence with ‘making a deal with the devil‘…

    1. You should consider carefully why you want to make a pact; what does it mean to you specifically, why is satanism important to you? What does your pact represent between you and satan? what does it symbolize?

    2. Selling the soul to Satan for riches fortune and fame is a myth and an urban legend. If that were true, all satanists would be rich and famous. Study the writings of Satanism, like the Satanic Bible instead of believing the hype written by non-satanists.

    3. Research and find out what Satan means to you. Only you can decide this for yourself and it is good to know what Satan represents to you before you enter into a life-long association with a spiritual path

    4. Fear comes from a lack of knowledge, and often those who don’t know what Satan represents, are apprehensive to make a pact thinking that Satan is dangerous or harmful. This is a fear that is created through the teachings of religions and superstitions. To the Theistic Satanist, Satan is a god, and this god is neither cruel nor benevolent; but it is the power and influence of Satan. And a pact with this god is an honorable thing.

    5. Realize that Satan is not here to satisfy our every desire, nor will he likely appear to those who are without a true spiritual intent, unless you are appealing to the forces of the christian Satan who would most likely love to bargain with you for your soul for your every earthly whim. Satan is not at your beck and call, unlike what the grimories say. From a Satanists point of view, we satisfy our own desires and by doing this we are in praise of Satan, and in praise of the self.

    6. Communion with a god, with Satan is a complex and lifelong spiritual process.
